First things first, welcome to the creator partner program! We’re very excited to be able to partner with you to host watch parties for you and your community. Second, while Playback is in beta testing, we will not have monetization options available for creators within the product. That said, we want to make sure creators are paid for their time and energy while we’re in beta. As a result, we’ve set up the following program to help creators get paid for testing the product with their audience!
Be accepted in the official Playback Partner Program
Host at least one watch party with 25 active viewers (excluding hosts and moderators)
A call to all sports enthusiasts:
Fans are already congregating online to discuss games. Playback’s new Partner Program gives you, sports fans and content creators alike, the opportunity to move those decentralized silos into a central hub, where you can watch the game, interact with fellow fans and build a rich community.
That is why Playback is launching our New Partner Program, a way for you to build a sports community online and earn money doing it, too! Our Partner Program allows you to both grow and monetize that community growth.
It’s super simple. Sign up, Playback’s team will help you set up your room and then you are free to start hosting with your community. Oh and did I mention you can earn money too?! Rooms will earn $2.50/watcher every time they stream. (A “Watcher” is defined as a logged in Playback account who stays in the room for 5+ minutes).
Here are a few examples of creators who have thrived using the New Partner Program:
Lakers Nation is an existing blog with a Youtube channel covering all things Los Angeles Lakers. When Lakers Nation joined Playback, they had the simple idea of being able to watch games with fellow Laker fans together. Now, they gather on Playback to stream every Lakers game.
Over the course of 6 months, their room has grown to nearly 10,000 members and regularly has 300-500 live watchers.
Rockets Watch is an example of different online communities coming together to create a community. Their community was created by 3 separate Rockets fans/creators. Their leaders came from ClutchFans blog, LockedOn Rockets Podcast and Rockets twitter. By combining forces to create an all-out Rockets room, Rockets Watch went from a hundred-or-so members to over 6,000 in a matter of months.
They don’t just stream Rockets games. They get on Playback nearly every day and utilize the live streaming atmosphere to just hang out and discuss whatever piques their interest. That could be watching a YouTube video of the previous nights’ game or of an upcoming opponent. Or it could be channel surfing and creating their own “red zone” type experience, flipping back and forth for best NBA action of any specific day. Rockets Watch cycles through multiple creators and hosts to stay on camera as much as possible, and in doing so, they have created an active, vibrant and successful community.
Your community doesn’t need to be focused around a specific team, either. The Committee is a collective of women’s basketball enthusiasts who connected through regular Twitter Spaces. When they joined Playback, they utilized their community- first approach to stream women’s basketball (WNBA and college). Their community grew from a few dozen to near 1000 over the course of a few months and their streams regularly get 100 watchers.
Whether you want to build a community around a specific team or just get together with friends and watch anything, Playback allows you to do so and have fun doing it. One thing we’ve found in all of Playbacks successful communities, is that both community leaders and room members form deeper bonds with both the content and each other. It’s one thing to post on a message board about a game, it’s another to interact in real time over a stream (be it on camera, behind an avatar as if you’re on a social audio platform or just in the chat). Apply to become an official Playback partner, build your community and earn money doing it.
Each creator in the introductory tier will be paid $100 per watch party
